Honeycomb Credenza

Honeycomb Credenza

A few years ago I began experimenting with different patterns and textures while doing some woodcarving for a sculpture.  I really enjoyed one of those patterns in particular and began to envision ways to incorporate the carving into a piece of furniture.  That idea finally came to life and the result is the Honeycomb Credenza.

The carved doors on each side open with a hand carved pull, while rare earth magnets are used to keep them shut.  The center door slides left and right when the side doors are opened.  The base is joined with pegged mortise and tenon joints, making for an incredibly solid structure to support the main cabinet.

The carved doors and base are made of ebonized red oak, while the case is made of paulownia.
